Green ¡°Belt and Road¡± helps companies to ¡°Going global¡± ¨C China and Mozambique signed the Forestry Memorandum of Understanding.

Mozambique is rich in forest resources, and 90% of its timber is exported to China. Since China has the experience and technology to use resources efficiently, the Sino-Mozambique trades have brought increasing influence on Mozambique’s forest resources, and both countries will have sufficient development space in terms of resources, market, investment, technology and experience.

National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China and the Ministry of Land, Environment and Rural Development of the Republic of Mozambique signed the Forestry Memorandum of Understanding on June 16, 2018 to support the cooperation of the forestry sector in investment, trade, technology, civil exchanges, information sharing and capacity building.

Taking the opportunity of the Mozambican delegation’s signing of Forestry Memorandum of Understanding in Beijing, the Green “Belt and Road” seminar to help companies “Going global” jointly organized by the CINFT NFGA and the WWF was held in Beijing on June 15, 2018. H. E Celso Correia, the Minister of Land, Environment and Rural Development of Mozambique attended the meeting and delivered a speech, and relevant officials from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, experts, scholars and representatives from the industry and foreign guests participated in the meeting to have interaction and exchanges.

H. E Celso Correia, the Minister of Land, Environment and Rural Development of Mozambique said in his speech: “Mozambique is seekingthe sustainable development strategy, and my department is committed to protecting Mozambique’s forest resources and becoming a responsible forest resources manager. I believe the signing of the Forestry Memorandum of Understanding between the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China and the Ministry of Land, Environment and Rural Development of the Republic of Mozambique will have positive significance for the development of both countries. The Memorandum of Understanding will promote our two countries’ closer cooperation in forestry in terms of technical exchanges, capacity training and information sharing and create a sound investment environment for Mozambique and China-funded enterprises. I am looking forward to more Chinese companies’ coming to Mozambique in the future.”

Fu Jianquan, an official of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China shared the significance of promoting Sino-Africa forestry cooperation with the participants. He pointed out that the forestry cooperation between the two countries is an important part of the docking of China’s “Going global” strategy and the “Belt and Road”Initiative with Africa’s development strategy. It can not only upgradethe economic structure of China’s forestry industry, but also promote the development of African forestry industry. The forestry cooperation of both countries is an effective way to improve China and Africa’s forest resources management, and will definitely boost the sustainable management of global forest resources.

With the implementation of the “Belt and Road” Initiative of China, Chinese enterprises will gain more opportunities for international investment and trade. Forestry development is an important part of building theGreen “Belt and Road”, and is also a basic guaranteeand support. Thus, the meeting advocated Chinese enterprises in Africa to pay sufficient attention to issues such as sustainable investment, sustainable forest operation and local community livelihood.
