New Forest Law of the People's Republic of China has been enacted

The newly revised Forest Law of the People's Republic of China was passed on 29th December during the 11th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Thirteenth National People's Congress in 2019. The law will be put in force since 1st July 2020.

The newly revised Forest Law has cancelled thetimber transportation permitting system and has further improved the timber harvesting permitting system.

According to Article 65 of the new Forest Law, timber companies are required to set accounts regarding the storage of material and products, and it is not allowed to purchase, process or transport timbers that are known to be from illegal sources. Article 64 has specified that forest managers can apply for forest certification, facilitating the sustainable management of forests. Articles added have provided a legal basis for the development of legal and sustainable forest products trade.
