According to Chinese laws and regulations on forestry trade and investment, themain requirements for forest products trade in China include:

1.Quarantine of imported and exported animal and plant products, and inspection of imported and exported commodities in accordance with mandatory requirements in national technical specifications.

2.A quota system for managing export licences for sawn timber (thicker than 6mm) to protect China's forest resources. The total annual export quota is 260,000 m3. Enterprises can apply for an export licence by submitting an application with authorities in their respective jurisdictions.

3.In the case of imports and exports of endangered species of timber, the Customs authorities shall, after examination, release them on the strength of the Permit for Import/Export of Endangered Species issued by the Endangered Species Import & Export Management Office or its administrative body.
